Windows 7 Beta
by John
So the Windows 7 beta has been released to the public. I installed it today expecting something big and exciting after being underwhelmed by Vista.. Once again I feel that Microsoft has missed the mark.
It just seems like Vista with a new name. Sure it has some new stuff in the background running the system, but it just doesn't make me go 'wow thats cool'.
I hope between now and the final release Microsoft can get some good feedback and actually listen.
They have the resources, time and money to do something big. If they don't I feel that they will continue to lose ground to Linux and Mac.

Haven't got the beta yet - but after reading around, I'm getting the idea that Microsoft is simply tapped out.
Windows has been evolving for 20 years now, and I think that is the problem - they've reached a point where evolution just can't take them any further, and a real revolution is needed. But MS just won't risk that revolution now - the number of users and computers running Windows is a lot more than 20 years ago, and the knock-on effects on software and hardware support would be too disruptive.
