Travel Tip: Airport Security

by John Email

If you have never flown before, Airport security can be a daunting task.
The main things to remember are

- Place all metallic items in the plastic trays provided. Item including rings, watches, belt buckles, coins and chunky metal on shoes can set scanners off.
- Take items such as laptops out of their carry bags. This is so they can view the laptop properly through the x-ray scanner
- Push them through the belt and make your way through the metal detector
- If nothing beeps then go collect your items from the other side.

You may also be asked for a random bomb dust swab of your items. This is usually just a sticky tag they stick to your bag, pull off, then scan.
There is also a chance of a random bag check where you will be asked to open your bag for them to inspect.
I think you may be able to refuse these but don't expect to be getting through security. Letting them check is a lot less hassle than refusing then spending hours
in a secure room trying to explain why you are refusing.

Also, DON'T be stupid and joke around about bombs, knives, hijacking, etc at all at the airport. Airport security will not be laughing with you.
You will most likely be detained and end up missing your flight which would be the least of your worries.

Be smart, follow the procedures and it will be a smooth process.
